Since Y’all Like Afrobeats Now…
First of all, thank you. The respect that Afrobeats has garnered over the past several years means that:
I don’t have to explain to DJs what it is anymore when I go out and grow bored with their idea of a playlist when I am at a bar.
I can experience a good time dancing (in more places) when I go out without having to fly to Washington, DC or Brooklyn, NY to dance my ass off.
I can make DJs that don’t play it AT ALL in ‘hip’ settings feel bad. (No I’m not a bully.)
However… DJs that are new to AFROBEATS… Let me tell you something…
Please expand your playlists! The way that you all allowed yourselves to remain in a chokehold with the song ESSENSE… The prior year you all were overcome by the song Drogba (Joanna)… I have nothing against these talented artists or their hit songs, but when the song is THE ONLY SONG played by the DJ and it’s supposed to represent ALL of Afrobeats in your mix?!?!?
Don’t be that DJ.
This behavior is actually a form of violence towards me. Please let’s be peaceful. Do right by Afrobeats and it’s long-time fans that attend your events. Please stop pissing me off.
Luckily, I can always depend on Vibemaster Entertainment to keep me up-to-date on new music, interviews with my Afrobeats faves, and more!
Also, I curate a playlist that includes a variety of music that speaks to my heart. You can listen to it on Spotify. Hope to see you on the dancefloor this summer. Make sure you dance to Afrobeats and tag me on Instagram.
